PROHIBITION OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE

What is Sexual Violence?

There is no internationally agreed definition of sexual violence. It includes rape, sexual slavery, trafficking for sexual purposes, forced prostitution, forced pregnancy, forced abortion, enforced sterilization, forced incest, forced marriage, sexual torture or any other form of sexual violence of comparable gravity against women, men girls or boys.

Main Rules

1. Sexual violence is strictly prohibited at all times.

2. Do not commit sexual violence against anyone (woman, man, girl or boy).

3. Men, women, boys and girls should be protected against any form of indecent assault.

4. Do everything possible to prevent and respond to sexual violence in your areas.

5. Protect detainees from sexual violence.

6. Report cases of sexual violence.

7. Investigate cases of sexual violence.

8. Ensure confidentiality and protection for victims of sexual violence.

9. Take measures to ensure victims of sexual violence have access to the assistance and support they need, including medical, psychological, legal, rehabilitation, and any other assistance or service.

10. Acts of sexual violence may amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
